About this guide

tomareenationalpark.com.au is an independent, unofficial visitor guide. We help people plan walks, lookouts, itineraries, stays and tours in and around Tomaree National Park, Port Stephens NSW — how hard the summit really is, where to park at Zenith, and whether a stretch of the Coastal Walk fits your day.

We are not NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), the NSW Government, Destination NSW, Port Stephens Council, Worimi Traditional Owners or Aboriginal Land Councils, Surf Life Saving clubs, or any commercial accommodation or tour operator unless explicitly stated.

We acknowledge the Worimi people, Traditional Owners of this Country, and their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. This site does not speak for Traditional Owner groups or for NSW National Parks.

Help people plan Tomaree National Park days and Coastal Walk sections honestly — Tomaree Head Summit grades, Zenith parking, Samurai 4WD camping, rips and limited reception — while funding free guides through clearly disclosed ads and affiliates. Tomaree visitor-info does not list a vehicle day-entry fee (re-checked 12 Sep 2026). Official NPWS camping bookings are never affiliated.

What this site is (and is not)

This is a long-form, park-specific planning guide: area pages, trail notes, printable itineraries, and original articles written for real Port Stephens days and short stays (including the ~2.5–3 hour drive from Sydney). It is not a booking engine, not a live alerts board, and not a pile of brochure blurbs. We write what to skip, when to turn around, and what to do if Zenith Beach car park is full — then send you to NSW National Parks for live status.

Related original guides on this site include a Zenith car park Plan B, Nelson Bay vs Anna Bay, and why 27 km in a day usually fails, Samurai 4WD camping and Fort Tomaree instead of Grade 5. Start with Plan your visit if you want the visit notes first.

How we work (accuracy policy)

We pull together publicly available park facts from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, check them against official visitor notes for Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay and Anna Bay, then write plain planning advice. We do not invent live track status, guaranteed open/closed claims, phone coverage maps, or official fee tables as if they never change. Walks on this site were not walked by the authors for this guide.

  • Distances, grades, fees and open/closed status must be verified on official NPWS pages before you travel. We never invent live closures.
  • Site-wide content review date: . Articles and visit/trail pages may carry their own reviewed dates. We wrote this from official NSW National Parks pages and published visitor notes — it is not a field diary and we do not claim “we walked this on [date].”
  • This site does not publish a public contact email — see Contact for official park channels and site expectations.

National Parks Guide Australia network

This is one deep park guide (Tomaree National Park) in the National Parks Guide Australia network of independent visitor guides. The visitor-facing hub is nationalparksguide.com.au — browse the directory and how the network works. The publisher remains Farming Domains.

Tomaree sits on hub collections for coastal parks, parks near Sydney, and serious hiking — a Port Stephens rhyodacite coast with a Grade 5 summit and a 27 km walk, not an inland escarpment or alpine park.
