Itineraries
Guide updated · verify NSW National Parks the morning you go
These plans are for real Port Stephens days — drive time from Newcastle or Sydney, Zenith parking, heat, rips and how tired you will be — not “do the whole 27 km” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a timeline, packing notes and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free day-trip checklist (PDF) · HTML · practical planner (PDF) · HTML.
Every itinerary defers to NSW National Parks for track status and alerts. Hard walks only appear where the plan names them — and only when official status is open.
Which plan fits you?
- Half-day Tomaree Head — Grade 5 summit, optional guns, reverse clock.
- Full-day summit + village — summit then Fingal or a short Coastal Walk cut.
- Family beaches — Fort Tomaree, flags, skip Grade 5 without shame.
- Two-day Coastal Walk — official 2-day split; car shuffle or Route 130.
- Whale season lookouts — May–November land-based binoculars, not a guaranteed boat.
If two plans both “sound good,” pick the shorter one. You can always upgrade on the ground; you cannot invent daylight on the highway home.
Print any plan from its page (this domain on the print chrome). Packing checklists: day-trip PDF / HTML. Decision tree and Samurai/Coastal Walk realism: practical planner PDF / HTML. Two-day Coastal Walk plans download the planner; other days download the checklist.

3–5 hours on the ground (+ drive time)
Half-day: Tomaree Head Summit
First visit from Newcastle or an early Sydney start with limited daylight
One honest Grade 5 summit, optional Fort Tomaree on the way down, village food, and a protected reverse clock — without pretending you can also walk to One Mile.
