Birubi Point & Anna Bay

Coastal Walk finish at Birubi Point Aboriginal Place, Worimi cultural artwork and audio, patrolled Birubi beach in season, and the Anna Bay services hub.

  • Best for: Coastal Walk finish, cultural site (respectful visit), dunes add-on (separate tenure), southern base
  • Time: 1–2 hours at Birubi; overnight in Anna Bay if walking northbound tomorrow
  • Nelson Bay Road to Anna Bay. Finish logistics for a one-way Coastal Walk: car shuffle, taxi, or Port Stephens Coaches Route 130.

Worimi Country — respectful visit

The Tomaree Coastal Walk retraces ancient Worimi routes and finishes at Birubi Point Aboriginal Place. ‘Tomaree’ is the English translation of Gathang language ‘Dhurrumiri’ (place of rainbow). The sea eagle is the totem of the Coastal Walk. Use official interpretation on site; do not add ceremony or access rules of your own.

This guide is unofficial and is not a Traditional Owner organisation.

One-way finish logistics

If you walked south, this is where the day ends: Birubi Point, then a shuffle, taxi, or Route 130 [VERIFY times]. If your bed is still in Nelson Bay with no return plan, you will pay for it. The village-base article exists because this mistake is common.

Standalone Birubi Point to One Mile page: 7.5 km one-way, Grade 3, 4–4.5 hours. The Coastal Walk map lists the One Mile–Birubi segment at about 9 km as part of the Grade 4 27 km. Cite both; confirm signs.

Dunes are next door, not this park’s campground

Worimi Conservation Lands (Stockton dunes) sit beside Birubi. Camel, quad and sandboard products are commercial operators on that tenure — not NPWS Samurai camping and not a Tomaree park fee. Do not merge the stories.

FAQ — Birubi / Anna Bay

Tap a question to expand the answer.

Is Birubi Point the same as the sand dunes?

Birubi Point Aboriginal Place sits at the southern end of the park/walk. The large moving dune system is Worimi Conservation Lands — adjacent, different rules and operators. Do not merge them into one park fee story.

Should I stay in Anna Bay or Nelson Bay?

Summit-first days: Nelson Bay / Shoal Bay. Southbound Coastal Walk finish: Anna Bay / Birubi, or a booked shuffle. See the village-base article before you pay for a bed.
